Pastor Alex Aivars

Personal Mission Statement

Pastor Alex is a creative and collaborative self-starter who seeks to help people connect to God. His calling is to speak to and nurture the spiritual lives of the people he serves, so that they can in turn both help each other and those out in the world.

My Story

Pastor Alex was born and raised in Michigan, growing up in Kalamazoo and Portage. Church was always a big part of his family’s life as he attended Sunday school, youth group, and youth gatherings in middle and high school.

After high school he attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College and then Western Michigan University. Right after graduating college, he started working in Web development at Western Michigan University.

Five years later he received his call to ministry while attending the Gay Christian Network conference (now called Q Christian Fellowship) in Chicago. This was the first space he found where he could be both gay and Christian, and it wasn't an issue. A year and a half later he started seminary at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.

In his free time he enjoys reading, listening to music (contemporary Christian is a favorite), being outdoors (biking, hiking and skiing are favorites), being creative (drawing, writing, and dancing are favorites), and spending time with friends and family.
